We have a current opening for a full-time Water Resources/River Engineer or Geomorphologist based in Alberta. We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join our growing team to support projects across Canada. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in hydraulics, hydrology, and fluvial geomorphology and interest in or experience with stream restoration, river systems, natural sciences, and aquatic ecosystems.


You will work as part of the Water Resource team who will deliver designs related to water resources engineering and similar resource management applications. In general, the projects will align with strong environmental stewardship and a focus on practical innovation. Projects include culvert design, water management plans for mining, river engineering, natural channel design. Specific duties include:

  • Supporting the design of natural and engineered channels
  • Contribute to river engineering, water management, dam safety, and water supply plans as part of a team.
  • Hydraulic modelling of natural and engineered channels
  • Collect, compile, manage and assess hydrology, hydraulic, climate, and geomorphological data
  • Technical report writing
  • Work collaboratively across offices and disciplines
  • Engage with clients and regulatory agencies
  • A desirable asset is the ability to do periodic field work, such as surveying, or as a boat operator.
  • Strong communication skills to ask key questions and manage expectations.
  • Willingness to participate in advanced training to grow their technical skills and to develop their technical career.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • 3+ year of relevant work experience (co-op experience will be considered)
  • Working knowledge of CAD software
  • Working knowledge of the principles of natural channel design
  • Experience with flood mapping and flood hazard assessments
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • The ability to travel to remote areas safely and efficiently for site meetings and/or fieldwork
  • Membership, or eligibility for membership, with Alberta Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (APEGA).

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D and GIS software
  • In-depth knowledge of hydraulic modelling software (e.g. HEC-RAS)
  • Construction and post-construction channel restoration monitoring experience
  • Proficiency with R, Matlab, Python or other applicable programming languages
  • Familiarity with total station and RTK GPS survey methods
  • Prior experience with proposal writing and/or project management
  • Environmental permitting and approvals experience
