The work we do at LeoStella is helping organizations and markets change the world by removing the barriers to building satellite constellations. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, high performing team focused on changing the paradigm in satellite development and production!

Position Description:

LeoStella is looking for an experienced senior project manager with a strong background in flight software development and embedded systems, including planning software releases, development of new functional capabilities, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting during on-orbit operations. This senior project manager will act as the software product owner, leading and managing internal software product baselines and updates and ensuring deliveries of verified software for avionics, power, propulsion, communications, and varying payload subsystems. You will support specific software needs for our cross-program portfolio including development and production programs from vehicle proposals through serial production of spacecraft. The ideal candidate will thrive on leading teams of software and system engineers, technicians, and others, from pre-contract and specification to delivery of production satellites at scale.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead software product team to deliver internal development roadmaps and program-specific requirements to support LeoStella programs.
  • Plan and coordinate across a multi-disciplinary team including software, systems, and hardware engineering, supply chain management, production, purchasing, and program managers responsible for the satellite development programs.
  • Tackle challenges large and small to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements.
  • Interface with other product and program teams, customers, and suppliers to ensure program success.
  • Work closely with engineering department functional managers to establish and maintain framework for successful on time delivery of necessary software releases and work products
  • Manage evolving and ambiguous needs and triage change as product advocate.
  • Create software release roadmaps that tie into program schedules and lead internal cross-program team from kick off to production delivery and mission operations, as needed.
  • Support the customer deliverables such as specification compliance, test plans, verification reports, schedule, program reviews, and design reviews.
  • Establish baseline plans, monitor performance and track progress against those plans, including schedule and budget, remove constraints, and identify risk mitigation plans to maintain internal release and program schedules and cost.
  • Manage customer and partner company communications in compliance with export control.
  • Develop and maintain a staffing plan/forecast consistent with program budgets and schedules and work with organizational leadership to ensure program is staffed to plan.
  • Use and maintain company tools for task management, schedule maintenance, ERP planning - example JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Project.
  • Lead and maintain program quality assurance plan, metrics, and root cause corrective action.
  • Create, own, and maintain executive program dashboards using program office methodology and templates.
  • Identify best practices, lessons learned and opportunities for process improvement. Document, train and implement best practices across multiple programs.

RequiredSkills:

  • Ability to work self-directed, seeking out issues; small and large problems alike - rather than being told where to look. Then work tenaciously to solve them.
  • Demonstrated product development leadership skills with an emphasis on aero or space products.
  • Strong ability to breakdown software baseline updates and customer specifications into manageable release roadmap using agile scrum methodologies and lead teams of engineers through the agile scrum process.

Qualifications:

  • BS in a relevant technical field – advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of engineering design and development experience in a related aerospace industry
  • 10+ years’ experience in Software Engineering management or IPT management of the life-cycle development resulting in hardware shipments with embedded systems and flight software
