Maxar is seeking a Space Domain Awareness Architect (Director level) in Herndon, VA or Melbourne, FL to direct and coordinate all activities in the planning, design, delivery and validation of technical upgrades of Maxar’s Space Domain Awareness and Space Protection portfolio in support of the company and customers within Air and Space Programs Customer Account, working closely with the Maxar Chief Technology Officer.

Your Work: You will support the Air & Space Programs VP & General Manager in leading the architectural development of Maxar’s Space Domain Awareness portfolio and work collaboratively with a highly expert team of empowered engineering experts in satellite development, modeling and simulation, sensors and software development across the company. You will also support the Maxar Chief Technology Officer as needed.

Day-to-day with your colleagues:

Serves as Chief Architect for Space Domain Awareness, directing resources with architectural and software engineering expertise in the planning, design, delivery and validation of technical upgrades of Maxar’s Space Domain Awareness and Space Protection portfolio.

Provide high-level architectural guidance, technical innovation, and analytical expertise to teams across the Air & Space Programs Customer Account as well as across Maxar systems.

Evolve Space Domain Awareness capabilities by delivering a rigorous approach to modernization and transformation

Senior leader responsible for customer facing relationships for program delivery

Identifies, plans, consults or leads on similar future projects

Responsible for technical activities associated with defining customer architectures

Identifies risks, opportunities, compliance issues or other architectural concerns

Analyzing project-related problems and creating innovative solutions involving schedule, technologies, methodologies, tools and solution components

Manage and define Technical Build & Deployment Requirements as well as Interfaces.

Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments, Leads, directs and reviews the work of a team who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments.

Manages a team with a focus on policy and implementation of strategic initiatives as well as execution of daily deliverables.

As a technical SME, supports various proposal activities.

Designs a complete and complex framework, system or product. Defines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility.

Conceives system interfaces and business application prototypes.

Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses. Influences the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems.

Provides multi-layered technical expertise for next generation initiatives. Analyzes alternate means of deriving input data to select the most accurate, feasible and economical methods.

Defines input and output file specifications including file organization.

Directs and controls the activities of a single functional area through several department managers within the company.

Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.

Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.

Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures effective achievement of objectives.

Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company.

Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.

Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.

Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers.

Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.

Minimum Requirement:

US citizenship and must have a TS/SCI clearance.

Master’s degree in a technical field.

12 years related experience.

Demonstrated ability to innovate the design, development and operation of a complex system, potentially composed of multiple subsystems and advanced algorithms.

Ability to define processes for technical platforms, system requirements and specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility.

Able to identify, analyze and resolve system design weaknesses or facilitates creation of alternative system design concepts.

Be able to influence the shaping of future products and next-generation initiatives by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems.

Ability to document requirements, design, algorithms, test procedures, and test results, according to specifications.

Ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Be an expert in the field, uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters.

Be able to work on issues that impact design/selling success or address future concepts, products or technologies.

Ability to create formal networks with key decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for the organization.

Exercise wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.
