Summary

Our software teams employ an Agile Scrum process to rapidly design, code, and integrate capabilities into a mature Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution. Work includes developing and integrating applications that provision loosely coupled systems and capabilities that can be reused, discovered, and linked to build mission threads. DevSecOps and operations responsibilities also apply. The team uses Government Furnished DevSecOps tool suites (Atlassian products, such as JIRA, BitBucket, and Confluence.) This position is specifically for a position on the Agile Core Services (ACS) Development Team as a Human Systems Integration (HSI) software engineer.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead proper implementation of human systems integration in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DODI) 5000.95 and perform duties to include, but not limited to, the following:
    • Continuously provide Human Factors Engineering (HFE) guidance to the team.
    • Investigate existing deployed/installed system for user experience improvements and continuous HSI review to address existing problematic design features and increase user usability.
    • Provide recommendations on enhancing existing Graphical User Interface (GUI) to improve user efficacy completing post-installation tasks related to monitoring, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
    • Plan, conduct, and interpret user (e.g., lab and shipforce System Administrators, TACNET, and application owners) needs/requirements analysis using interviews, surveys, performance testing, and lessons learned.
    • Conduct internal (i.e., team personnel) and external (e.g., lab and shipforce System Administrators, TACNET, and application owners) interview to evaluate documentation usability and collect feedback on GUI user experience.
    • Provide recommendations for enhancing existing documentation (e.g., System Administration Guide [SAG], Installation Guide [IG], or Configuration Item Configuration Document [CICD]) that will support accelerated training of different users.
  • Participate in a highly collaborative team within an AGILE software development and integration environment.
  • Assist with trouble tickets with the ability to create, update, and close tickets, and track items to resolution (Confluence, JIRA).
  • Integrate multi-functional applications into container-based support services.
  • Write well designed, testable, and efficient code that meets technical requirements.
  • Assist in the troubleshooting of code defects and deployment of timely fixes.
  • Document code utilizing government identified configuration management tools.
  • Deploying, installing, and troubleshooting software at the Fleet and Navy test facilities. Findings related to troubleshooting software code issues will be reported.
  • Review and provide feedback on project technical documentation pertinent to Fleet.
  • Design, implement, develop, and integrate software that powers infrastructure services to support data mediation,
  • orchestration, and machine-to-machine messaging.
  • Plans, designs, integrates, and tests software, network, and/or hardware products from initial specifications to final rollout
  • and maintenance.
  • May be asked to support the ACS Operations Team, supporting installations and system maintenance ranging from locally to internationally at labs, naval shore sites, and onboard naval vessels.
  • This position may require travel from San Diego to CONUS and OCONUS locations. The expected travel requirement is approximately 4 weeks per year (10%).
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
  • Four (4) to eight (8) of experience in a software engineering role.
  • Candidate must have an existing SECRET security clearance.
  • Candidate must have ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
  • A minimum of DoD Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II Certification or eligibility is required for this position.
  • At least 2 years of experience with technologies like Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm and/or other container orchestration platforms.
  • Experience with Virtual Machines (VMWare etc.), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Containers, Ansible, and Python.
  • Experience with troubleshooting complex operating systems and networks in a RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environment.
  • Experience demonstrating competencies including researching, analyzing, installing, and testing software updates, patches and hotfixes. Experience troubleshooting software code issues and reporting on findings.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of business users and management.
  • Ability to work individually and on team projects in an environment of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Effective team player with highly proficient customer service skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • TS/SCI security clearance
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CompTIA Linux+
  • Familiarity with DNS, LDAP, PKI, and other infrastructure services.
  • Exposure to working with DISA, NIST, or STIG security guidelines and how to adhere to them.

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is $110,000 to $150,000 annually. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

  • Noise conditions range from very quiet to very noisy.
  • Prolonged use of computer (typing/keyboarding).
  • Frequently required to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk, and may occasionally lift and move at least 25 pounds.
