Based in our San Diego office, the Senior Marketing Proposal Specialist is integral to RICK's growth. As a key contributor within our dynamic marketing team, you will be instrumental in supporting our marketing efforts by crafting compelling and articulate proposals, technical documents, and marketing collateral.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in technical writing, exceptional editing skills, and the ability to deliver clear and persuasive messages. You will be responsible for developing and executing marketing strategy, following, teaching, and promoting our proposal process, building relationships with technical partners, developing creative visions, and inspiring innovative solutions related to our proposal strategies. We collaborate with designers, engineers, and project managers to pursue projects that create resilient communities and infrastructure.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Leads the end-to-end proposal process, which includes thoroughly understanding project requirements, collaborating with technical experts, understanding client needs, and crafting compelling and compliant proposal text.
  • Leads technical team and junior marketing staff through the development of high-impact and engaging SOQs, proposals, and presentations that highlight our depth of experience, expertise, and innovation.
  • Collaborates with the Business Development group to understand target markets, client needs, and industry trends to tailor proposals for specific clients and disciplines, demonstrating the firm's understanding of the market's challenges and opportunities.
  • Conducts and documents internal lessons-learned meetings and executes actions to produce process improvement and attain higher success rates.
  • Analyzes RFQ/RFP documents to develop detailed compliance and responsibilities matrices.
  • Creates proposal outlines and management plans, which may involve multiple RICK offices, staff participants, and subconsultant firms.
  • Evaluates technical content to ensure RFP requirements and evaluation criteria are met and the proposal is compliant.
  • Tracks amendments and clarifications to ensure that the final proposal incorporates all required information.
  • Facilitates/leads strategy and proposal reviews to develop win themes, drive progress, clarify unclear requirements, and ensure adherence to the proposal schedule.
  • Writes/completes resumes, project profiles, project lists, forms and other standard materials for sales leaders as requested.
  • Works with RICK subject matter experts to maintain the technical accuracy of resumes, project descriptions, and boilerplate content.
  • Coordinates legal review of forms and contract terms.
  • Oversees print production and document delivery.
  • Performs proposal close-out tasks and tracks selection decision.
  • Maintains internal systems of information capture.
  • May require periodic travel, participation in state and regional conferences, and active membership in professional organizations.


  • Proven experience in proposal/technical writing, preferably in the fields of engineering, architecture, construction, or similar.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong editing skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and compelling written content.
  • Four-year degree in Marketing or a related field, plus a minimum of 7 years of experience writing and managing proposals for firms within the AEC industry.
  • Possess management and supervisory skills in addition to experience producing exceptional marketing deliverables.
  • Demonstrate an ability to independently manage multiple proposals simultaneously while following the company’s proposal preparation process.
  • Highly organized with meticulous time management skills that translate into the ability to establish priorities and a course of action for handling multiple tasks. I

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment and successfully manage concurrent projects while demonstrating flexibility with shifting priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign
