Intro and job overview: As a Senior Information Developer, API Documentation, at Precisely will you act as an advocate for our developer customers as you document our APIs. As the “first user” for our products, you will use your knowledge of, and empathy for, our developer customers to review the functionality across multiple APIs to suggest changes that will help developers to better understand and use our APIs. You will also use your knowledge to develop code samples and examples to help customers understand when and how to use our APIs to accomplish tasks. As part of our global team, you will work closely with other writers, developers, product managers, and other cross-functional team members in an Agile development environment to design, build, and launch solutions for our customers. You will transform complex technical information into concise and well-organized API and SDK reference content. You will also work on User Assistance team initiatives that help us standardize, automate, and innovate what we do including helping to rearchitect the experience for developer content across Precisely.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Use your knowledge of the developer audience to take ownership of the API documentation, specifically architect, scope, and write documentation for our APIs, including descriptions and other content in APIs, SDK references, guides, workflows, videos, and other content types.
  • Work with engineering team members and others to augment the documentation by including sample code and examples of how to use APIs to do tasks.
  • Peer review documents written by engineering team members and suggest edits and improvements.
  • Peer review APIs specified by engineering team members and suggest ways to make the APIs easier to use and more consistent.
  • Become an expert in data integrity and our API users to help you interpret business and technical designs, and organize materials for content projects.
  • Work with stakeholders to secure plan input and signoff, communicate status, and manage risks and escalations.
  • Work with subject-matter experts to ensure technical accuracy and content appropriateness.
  • Complete projects and deliverables within the timeline defined for assigned projects.
  • Manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Participate in team initiatives to help drive innovation and team initiatives.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience documenting modern APIs. Or 6+ years’ experience in a developer outreach, technical partner management, technical evangelist, or similar role and an interest in writing.
  • Ability to read and do at least some coding in one or more modern languages such as JavaScript, Go, Python, or Ruby.
  • Experience using OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman, and GraphQL.
  • Experience using an IDE such as IntelliJ and comfort with Git processes.
  • Experience performing task analysis for a user-centered approach to content development.
  • Experience using DITA or Markdown.
  • Experience using an XML editor such as oXygen, xMetaL, or Arbortext Editor.
  • Experience using a Component Content Management Systems (CCMS) or other source management tool.
