Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Clastic Sedimentologist to join our highly collaborative team!

Reporting to the Geology Team Lead, you will use your geoscience skills to generate, compile, synthesize, and interpret geological data. In an applied environment, you will technically lead and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and be responsible for using a range of techniques and processes to supervise and contribute to exciting, multidisciplinary projects. We are looking for individuals who are intuitive, ask questions, challenge conventional thinking, and will continuously seek to improve our interpretations and processes.

The successful candidate must be able to drive multidisciplinary projects using a range of techniques, software, and processes relating to the areas of clastic sedimentology. They must also be familiar with synthesizing and integrating data sets from other relevant disciplines (e.g., stratigraphy, geochemistry, seismic interpretation) to support their interpretation.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Accurately generate and interpret data related to Clastic Sedimentology and prepare professional deliverables, notably:
    • Undertaking core description, facies analysis and depositional modelling.
    • Conducting petrographic analysis, utilising light microscopy.
    • Integration with additional mineralogical data sets, including but not limited to automated mineralogy (QEMSCAN®), SEM and XRD in the assessment of detrital and authigenic mineralogy, phases of diagenesis and controls on reservoir quality.
    • Integrating core analysis and other core/well data in the assessment of reservoir quality.
    • Perform sequence stratigraphic analysis and both facies and reservoir quality mapping.
  • Collaborate and integrate with other technical disciplines to gain detailed subsurface insights. Familiarity with other geological disciplines (e.g. seismic, geochemistry and stratigraphy) is advantageous.
  • Participating in and leading client meetings, presenting internally, externally, and at conferences.
  • Support in the content creation and delivery of training programs.
  • Mentoring/coaching of junior staff, providing feedback when required to aid their career development.
  • Ensure technical excellence through peer review and quality assurance processes.
  • Maintaining open communication and fostering collaboration with teams and clients
  • Scoping, co-ordinating and managing projects that involve diverse data and stakeholders; ability to define and manage project deadlines.
Qualifications

Educated to Degree, Masters, or PhD-level in the field of Clastic Sedimentology and have >8 years’ experience applying their knowledge in a commercial and/or academic environment.

Skills And Experiences

  • Passion and enthusiasm for science, geology, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience in producing and interpreting sedimentological datasets. Familiarity and integration with wider geological disciplines is advantageous.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver on project deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic attitude towards learning and flexibility to adapt to new challenges or changes in direction.
  • Ability to rapidly locate, digest, and compile information from different sources.
  • An understanding of the impact of data and technology, and the potential for enhancements to address technical and commercial opportunities.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching junior staff and/or students, and providing feedback to aid their development.

Desirable

  • Programming, data science, statistics, or related skills.
  • Experience in interpreting and integrating data from other technical disciplines, such as seismic, geochemistry (organic and inorganic), stratigraphy, and/or petrophysics.
  • Knowledge of reservoir model builds and inputs.
  • Knowledge of the energy sector, including a keen interest in energy transition.
