KCI's Water Resources Practice is looking for a Project Scientist to support the group with completing a wide variety of projects, including National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance projects, for local municipalities and industrial clients. The work will include field data collection, reporting, mentoring staff, and coordinating with the project managers and clients. Projects will include construction inspection for environmental restoration projects, support of design efforts for environmental restoration projects, illicit discharge detection and elimination, stormwater monitoring, and stormwater management facility inspections, among others.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • Ideally the candidate would possess working knowledge of ArcGIS.
  • Understanding of the NPDES permits and compliance requirements.
  • Strong communications skills required (verbal and writing).


  • BS/BA in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management or Geography MS preferred in Environmental Field.
  • Minimimum of 5-9 years of experience in the environmental/natural resources field.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Submit for approval and deliver timely annual Employee Performance Appraisals for assigned staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Lead preparation of proposals and qualifications in response to RFPs and RFQs
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(75%-80% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Chart and provide task performance results
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Provide input for monthly progress reports for all tasks
  • Provide technical project and staff oversight
  • Serve as task manager on select projects
  • Assess and document potential project impacts
  • Collect required field data using proper protocols and techniques
  • Lead field surveys
  • Lead the development of and assemble organized, clear, and cohesive technical reports
  • Oversee production of design plans and reports
  • Prepare avoidance or minimization recommendations
  • Prepare mitigation strategy and plan as required
  • Process field data for inclusion in reports and deliverables
  • Review and interpret lab results
  • Review technical reports and provide QA/QC prior to submittal
