This position is US Remote in eastern time zone. Preferably east coast states.

Intro And Job Overview

As Principal Systems Engineer you will design, develop, support, and maintain the organizations PlaceIQ big data infrastructure, including the implementation and design of hardware and software. You will work closely with the development team to create solutions that will support and facilitate the organization’s big data pipeline and all the related systems and processes, which includes building new solutions as well as updating and maintaining existing solutions. This position is 100% remote based in the US, and travel is not required.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Participate in troubleshooting and recovery efforts during outages or complex issues
  • Take the lead on any project-based work relating to the Linux environment
  • Review and recommend various technologies and improvements to enhance information systems and bring value to the organization
  • Architect, deploy, and manage small VMware infrastructure (
  • Utilize Ansible for deployment, configuration, and patch management
  • Deploy and manage FreeIPA services for Linux server identity and authentication management
  • Deploy and manage Jenkins infrastructure including Gitlab, Sonatype Nexus Repository, and other related services
  • System maintenance including patching, upgrades, operating system fix installs, operating system upgrades, and reboots
  • Utilize tools for continuous system monitoring of system resource utilization and application health (Zabbix, Influx/Grafana, ELK)
  • Monitor and maintain system security to ensure system integrity.

  • Requirements And Qualifications

    • 5+ years experience with all current CentOS/RedHat distributions and of Linux Administration/Engineering
    • 5+ years experience deploying and supporting Linux VMs running in a VMWare environment
    • Extensive experience troubleshooting Linux system and software issues
    • Extensive scripting experience (Bash, Python)
    • Extensive experience managing VMWare with vCenter and related tools
    • Experience with automation tools (Puppet, Ansible, Foreman)
    • Experience building and managing Jenkins CI/CD pipelines
    • Experience with CloudFormation in AWS environments
    • Some networking experience (TCP/IP, IP routing, NAT, firewalls, DNS)
    • Good understanding of IT Security
