At Nearmap, we have an appetite for energetic and engaged people and we are currently seeking a Principal DevOps Engineer to join our DevOps team.

As Principal DevOps Engineer , you will be responsible for helping to drive the team and organisation’s DevOps Maturity via technical leadership, influencing and educating on DevOps best practices, continuous improvement and service availability. Supporting the Director, DevOps this role within the DevOps team will require strong communication skills and you will be responsible in owning technology components and be able to drive the appropriate actions and present key messages to senior stakeholders across the business.

In this function, you will lead, mentor, prioritise work and set the technical direction for the core infrastructure of Nearmap.Your position within Nearmap is all about your engagement ability, technical expertise, your ideas, and your willingness to bring a fresh perspective to the way we do things.

Our DevOps stack: Kubernetes, IAC, GitLab, Linux, Containerisation

What we're looking for:

  • Experience working in a DevOps role as a senior, principal or technical lead.
  • Technical leadership experience with the ability to drive the technical direction and prioritisation of our core DevOps team.
  • Experience with software build tools and automation tools.
  • Experience working and supporting infrastructure in a highly available environment, and working within large-scale cloud environments.
  • Experience with modern SRE practices in a cloud-native environment.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Passion for internal tooling, CICD and compliance.
  • Team-centric leadership and willingness to help others succeed.


Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology (or equivalent).
