Job Description

Fugro OARS® provides centralized command centers worldwide with direct access to offshore survey projects. The system allows for the optimization of survey crew size, client engagement, and access to Fugro’s subject matter experts around the world.

The Offshore Survey Technologist will directly participate in construction and positioning-related survey services such as LBL/USBL acoustic positioning, rig and vessel positioning, pipeline surveys, dimensional control, hydrographic, and other marine surveying services. These services are mostly concentrated offshore but staff may eventually transfer to Fugro’s recently opened Remote Operations Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Labrador.

Job Responsibilities

  • Carefully check files/drawings describing existing structures and pipelines against client-issued charts or source data (i.e., coordinate listings), paying particular attention to operations that require positioning of structures or systems on or near the seabed (i.e., ROV, AUV, USV, jack-up rig legs, anchors, geotechnical/geophysical sensors, trenchers, and similar systems).
  • Safely store raw and processed survey data to ensure no loss or corruption.
  • Ensure that the data is processed, and the results presented in accordance with the agreed Project Specific Procedures.
  • Monitor the quality of data and advise the Party Chief (or Project Manager) of any deficiencies or inconsistencies.
  • Assemble all ancillary information such as tidal data, previous survey information, and any sub-contract positioning system data, etc., as necessary for offshore operations.
  • Advise the Party Chief/Project Manager on the recommended equipment and personnel levels required to efficiently support the offshore phase of the project.
  • Monitor survey equipment against the manifest and advise the Fugro Logistics Coordinator of any loss, damage, or deficiencies.
  • Liaise with the Master/Client Representative/Project Manager on the most suitable locations for the installation/deployment of the survey equipment.
  • Ensure that where appropriate, the survey equipment is tested fully operational.
  • Confirm/determine all offsets to antenna and survey sensors by measurements checked against any available General Arrangement (GA) drawing.
  • Carry out offshore equipment calibrations in accordance with project-specific procedures

  • Follow written and verbal instructions
  • Work independently and on own initiative, as well as working successfully with a team
