The Space Based Sensing Division/Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Operations and Sustainment Department supports Space Systems Command Space Sensing OPIR divisions, supporting development of future ground system capability evolutions as well as sustainment of current DoD OPIR Missile Warning systems. The Aerospace OPIR Operations and Sustainment Team supports Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness system performance analysis (based on OPIR mission processing), design of future ground system capability evolutions, Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness operations, and analysis of ground system software updates for the current operational system.

Work Model

The primary job location for the position is at Buckley SFB in Aurora, CO with occasional meetings along the Colorado Front Range. This position will follow a hybrid work model, offering partial remote work as business needs allow.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work with the Aerospace OPIR Operations and Sustainment Team Lead Analyst to evaluate Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness mission processing performance
  • Collaborate with local and remote software developers to design, develop, and code new Aerospace Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness analysis tools in Python
  • Support the design and development of new OPIR Missile Warning mission performance scenarios with updated missile targets to evaluate ground system performance
  • Develop and code analysis tools and scripts to automate tasks as needed
  • Support OPIR mission processing development activities of future ground system capability evolutions, to include co-operative Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness performance analysis with development contractors and oversight of test and verification activities

What You Need to be Successful – Project Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field
  • Demonstrated coding experience with Python and associated data science, engineering, or scientific related Python libraries
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience that includes systems analysis with analysis tool development, ideally including evaluation of missile warning performance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, FFRDCs, SETAs, and contractors
  • Current Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/ SCI which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to travel occasionally, on average a few times per year

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field
  • Demonstrated coding experience with Python and associated data science, engineering, or scientific related Python libraries
  • 12 or more years of relevant experience that includes systems analysis with analysis tool development, ideally including evaluation of missile warning performance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, FFRDCs, SETAs, and contractors
  • Ability to support multiple programs and/or activities simultaneously and to be comfortable acting as a technical point-of-contact
  • Current Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/ SCI which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to travel occasionally, on average a few times per year

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Demonstrated coding experience with two or more of the following programming languages: Python, C/C++, Visual Basic
  • Experience with coding tools to read, write, and utilize Google Protocol buffers
  • Experience with scripting tools such as PERL and Unix/Linux environments
  • Familiarity with Systems Tool Kit (STK) including automation of STK tasks with Python
  • Knowledge of missile warning mission, OPIR sensors, data, and mission data processing
  • A current Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US Government
  • Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$138,000 - $171,250 - $208,000
