About HERE Tour Planning

Tour Planning is a REST API that is responsible for multi-vehicle route optimization. It provides a way to solve variations of the Vehicle Routing Problem. Customers can use it to plan their fleet of delivery or service vehicles while taking into account several constraints such as time windows, capacity, cost, maximum travel time/distance, driver breaks, etc. As a result, the API returns a cost-effective sequence (tours) to visit all the stops in the daily plan.

As a key member of our product development team, you'll play a pivotal role in crafting our products and bringing your innovative ideas to the forefront.

Your tasks will include but not be limited to

  • Contribute to research and add new features to the vehicle routing problem solver
  • Improve existing algorithms to improve performance and solution quality
  • Work with stakeholders (and customers) to build reliable and resilient service that achieves the highest availability and throughput
  • Follow engineering best practices (unit testing, automation, pairing, refactoring, continuous delivery, etc.) and keep up to date with the latest trends and technologies
  • Coach others and help them grow in your area of expertise

Who are you?

The following knowledge and skills would ensure your success in this role:

  • 8+ years of overall experience in research-based / high-performance software development
  • Scientific background in operations research (preferably in designing heuristic/metaheuristic algorithms for VRPs)
  • Hands-on experience in software development using high-level programming languages (e.g. Rust, C++, Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python, etc.). Open to learning new technologies.
  • Fluent in English, both in spoken and written form

The following knowledge would add extra value to your contributions:

  • Domain knowledge: Vehicle routing problem, logistics applications
  • Knowledge of creating RESTful APIs and building microservice-based systems
  • Experience with building and running highly available and scalable services using Cloud Platforms, e.g. AWS, following the infrastructure as code paradigm by using, e.g. Kubernetes or Terraform
