As a Regulatory Project Manager, you will be part of our Environmental Sustainability Services service group to build up, manage and execute aggregate projects for clients throughout Western Canada. You will be working mostly within an office setting which may require business-related travel approximately 10% of the time.


  • Working with management and client leads to execute on and build up various portfolios and promote continual growth, development, and improvement of technical capabilities through successful project delivery.
  • Applying appropriate project management techniques including effective change management, leadership and mentoring of team personnel, maintenance of the client relationship and creating conditions that result in long term repeat business.
  • Executing projects including but not limited to preparing applications for necessary project permits, approvals and licenses (e.g., EPEA, Water Act, Public Lands Act, etc.), compliance monitoring, and liaising with clients and regulatory authorities and required reporting.
  • Assisting with and leading environmental impact assessments, both at a federal and provincial level.
  • Assessing project requirements and client needs for the development, preparation and management of work plans, budgets, and implementation schedules.
  • Assisting with or leading evaluation of competitive proposals for pursuit decision, and coordinating contractual, legal and other required reviews.
  • Collaborating internally with team and all departments within MEMS to ensure efficient execution of project work.
  • Mentoring staff on completing approvals, applications, reports and field work, etc.
  • Supervising and mentoring staff to develop technical and project management competencies in accordance with MEMS expectations.
  • Providing review of documents at an elevated technical level in accordance with MEMS senior review requirements.
  • Participating in technical and safety programs, quality assurance and quality control.
  • Working with senior staff and group directors to enable and facilitate growth, development, and cross training opportunities for MEMS employees.
  • Providing detailed information into MEMS systems on new work and staffing needs that will enable excellence of execution of assigned workloads.
  • Supporting the Environmental Sustainability Services Group and other service groups in actively pursuing opportunities to promote the development and growth.
  • Participating in staff recruitment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in environmental sciences or similar.
  • Eligibility for membership in a professional organization such as AIA, ASPB, or APEGA (or other provincial equivalents).
  • A minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in executing and managing permitting, regulatory and/or environmental assessment projects.
  • Experience tracking and managing projects and costs.
  • Knowledge and experience with pits and surface material guidelines as it relates to Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA)
  • Knowledge and experience with Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Public Lands Act, Water Act and Wildlife Act, Fisheries Act, Impact Assessment Act, at minimum.
  • Clear effective communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Excellent safety attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting and independently.
  • A valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license.
