We’re on the hunt for an Intermediate Member of Technical Staff (MTS) - Systems Security in our Geointelligence Engineering Team at our Richmond office.

Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise geospatial systems and defence programs.

As a member of the Engineering team you will work on our programs such as Chorus Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Satellite, Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope, Aeronautical Navigation products, and Marine Insights products. You will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customers.

The Position

As an Intermediate Member of Technical Staff (MTS) - Systems Security, you would have responsibilities for security elements of MDA’s Earth Observation space missions, large defence contracts such as CSC and diverse in-house developed products spanning from cloud based geointelligence platforms to our Laser Warning and Countermeasures system.

Excellent internal and external communication skills are necessary in order to work closely with the customer, with other technical teams, and to support the development of robust, secure and cost effective systems. You will be mentored by experienced systems security engineers and have many opportunities for training and professional development in Cybersecurity topics.

Role

As a member of the Security Engineering team for Geointelligence, you will ensure expert support is provided to various product/project teams to ensure that they address the security target and comply with applicable policies, procedures and standards. You will define the target security posture and/or the security requirements for projects and solutions during their definition and development. You will provide insight into vulnerability management and response within complex information systems.

Responsibilities

As an Intermediate Member of Technical Staff (MTS) - Systems Security, you may have a wide range of responsibilities that include:

  • Developing security related artefacts supporting secure systems development;
  • Investigation and analysis of security tools for use in the development, assessment and test of secure systems;
  • Investigation and integration of tools and technologies to be incorporated into the MDA DevOps environments;
  • Tracing customer requirements to conceptual designs and preparing associated documentation (e.g. specifications, test plans, reports);
  • Conducting threat-risk assessments and developing threat models of MDA systems/products;
  • Work with development and operational staff to coordinate network vulnerability and compliance scanning;
  • Apply knowledge of IT infrastructure to facilitate the process of evaluating security risks and controls;
  • Derive security requirements, designs, solutions and mechanisms in response to current DND security focus including CSE Security Controls and Directives;
  • Evaluating, analyzing, developing, testing, and recommending specific solutions in response to specific security guidelines or industry best practices;
  • Working hands on in a lab and integration environment;
  • Execute various types of testing for security related aspects of the product/system, write test reports and support overall product/system sell-off;
  • Supporting work planning and cost estimates during the project lifecycle; and
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the security environment and the associated infrastructure.

Requirements

Mandatory experience and skills:

  • A degree or diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant experience in Systems Security.
  • 2 or more years working in an engineering or information systems environment;
  • Appreciation of the delivery and accreditation process of systems against CSE ITS guidance (e.g. ITSG-11/22/33/38), NDSODs, Canadian EMSEC standards and the Canadian Security Assessment and Authorization Guideline;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and customer interaction skills, and
  • Exceptional problem solving abilities

Preferred Experience And Skills

  • Experience with NIST SP-800 suite (e.g.-53, -160) ISO/IEC, DISA STIGs, CIS, SANS standards;
  • Experience in designing, deploying or working in Security Operation Centres; including technologies such as Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Intrusion prevention System (IPS), and machine learning technologies is an asset.
  • Hands-On experience with one or more of the following products: Microsoft Enterprise network suite of software, SIEMs, vulnerability assessment tools, virtualization technologies continuous monitoring and data loss preventation tools;
  • Familiarity with any of the following:
    • Open Source Security Testing Methodology Manual;
    • OWASP References and SQL Vulnerabilities,
    • Requirements management software such as DOORS,

Comments/Special Considerations

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the SECRET status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.

Salary range $89,000 - $100,000 based on individual qualifications
