Job Description

A Chronicle Heritage GIS Specialist must be familiar with standard field data collection products and report figures, and adaptable to Heritage Management regulations and general archaeological field and reporting methods. GIS Specialists work closely with Project Managers to ensure the goals of the project and GIS-related requests are understood.

Hire Type: Full-time/Exempt

Schedule: Sunday – Thursday (flexible schedule)

Location : Onsite – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia


  • Preparing and revising field data collection products, tailored to match specific project goals.
  • Preparing and revising report figures.
  • Executing geospatial research, including retrieving heritage data and researching historic maps when applicable.
  • Georeferencing and digitization of raster images.
  • Manipulation of various data types and sources (KML, shapefiles, feature datasets).
  • Organization of spatial data with the use of geodatabases.
  • Production of field data collection products, including geolocated maps and web maps.
  • Work with Google Earth, QGIS, and ESRI ArcGIS Pro 2.x, ArcMap 10.x, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS for Collector, Survey 123, and Field Maps for ArcGIS.
  • Import/export shapefiles, tables, and other spatial data as requested.
  • Adherence to agency-specific requirements within Chronicle Heritage branding guidelines.
  • Use of Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Other duties assigned by manager/project lead.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Anthropology/Archaeology, or allied discipline
  • Minimum two years of experience using ArcGIS Pro 2.x and ArcMap 10.x. Experience with ArcGIS Online is preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience using AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS software, geodatabases, geoprocessing tools
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting cultural resource data in reports, maps, and photographs.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate principles and cultural resource management concepts.
  • Fluent in English & Arabic; read, write, and speak
  • Field experience related to archaeology preferred but not required (e.g., mapping, data recording, site photography, sketch maps, survey, and data recovery).
  • Comfortable with advanced data processing workflows
  • Ability to understand and work within Heritage Management regulations for a variety of stakeholders and geographic regions.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting to accomplish project goals.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet last-minute deadlines with colleagues around the world.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to produce professional final and draft deliverables.
  • Flexibility and capability to meet the demands of rapidly changing plans and schedules.
  • Travel to work sites across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as needed.
