About the role

Ordnance Survey is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our dynamic team. In this role you will undertake high level accountancy activities that supports the business reporting cycle, to enable the business to meet its financial targets.

You will provide financial insight, support and challenge to the business, some of the responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supports the team to produce and analyse monthly financial results and year report reporting/compliance.
  • Assistance/input into the annual budgeting and regular forecasting process
  • Ensure the integrity of books and records through performance of high level review
  • Provides advice to the business on the management of financial processes and reporting, to ensure correct application of financial policies and procedures
  • Working with Business Partners, support and challenge specific business area’s on their financial performance
  • Maintains and develops strong working relationships across the business
  • Support the Finance Manager with reporting and compliance activities
  • Undertakes financial projects to support the business as required
  • Supports, coaches and advises team members
  • Visible role model and advocate for OS leadership behaviours and values
  • Coaches and develops individual and collective capability to create high performing teams
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required.

What we’re looking for

  • Appropriate Accounting qualification (i.e. ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified) or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of relevant financial systems (e.g. D365 desirable not essential)
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards, techniques and principles
  • Broad finance experience
  • Annual report or accounts preparation useful but not essential
  • People leadership experience desirable

Location : We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be required to spend 5 days a month with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home, one of our regional offices or spend more time at OSHQ. This role will be based at our state-of-the-art Headquarters in Southampton, Hampshire.


OS conducts DBS background checks for all joiners and some of our roles require additional security clearance, including to SC or DV level in some cases. We will tell candidates at the appropriate time during the recruitment process if additional clearance will be required for this role.
