The Role

The Facilities Technician is a team member with the Operations department’s facilities team and plays a supporting role in the day-to-day coordination of all areas of the building operations related to space utilization and function, ensuring all requirements related to the safe operation of the facility are met.

The Facilities Technician supports building related activities such as: identifying office space requirements, identifying and implementing leasehold improvements, contacting and interfacing with internal customers, assisting with planning and scheduling of routine and emergency work, supporting project set ups according to their facility requirements, coordinating procurement with facility needs, coordinating contractor activities, and assisting for future facility and resource needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with the Facilities team to ensure office facility requirements, renovations, and activities are implemented safely and efficiently to support the overall operations of the business
  • Assist in the handling of building/renovation projects, contacting with vendors and supervising their work along with other Facilities team members
  • Assist in the oversight of all automated building systems, including heating, lighting, ventilation, security, etc
  • Assist in the coordination of new office requirements, initial design of space needs and review with end-users as needed
  • Assist in the coordination of in-office workstation relocations and setups as required
  • Provide assistance with the execution of large-scale relocations, projects and/or special events
  • Assist in the coordination, scheduling and prioritization requests for services and maintain records of implementation of such services
  • Assist, as necessary, with meeting/conference room setups and maintenance including requirements for special functions
  • Assist in providing inputs into the facility budget and maintenance, reception, security compliance and mail delivery staff (expectation of all)
  • Liaison with janitorial staff, cleaning services and cafeteria operations to address queries as needed
  • Support the planning of future building needs and coordinate lease-hold improvements and lease administration as assigned
  • Actively participate in Occupational Health and Safety Committees, Emergency Response Team activities as needed
  • Other duties as assigned on an ad hoc basis

Job Requirements (experience/skills)

  • High school diploma and/or related training from a recognized post-secondary institution and/or facilities support experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of applicable trades is an asset
  • Proficient with software applications (Word, Excel, Scheduling tools)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Customer oriented team player
  • Proactive with a can do and will do attitude capable of working under pressure
  • Demonstrate solid time management and organization skills to meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Physically able to lift 50lbs as needed

Comments/Special Considerations

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the enhanced reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).


The compensation range for this position is $40,000 - $50,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate
