The Earth Observation Systems (EOS) Team builds systems offering massive systematic and automated data processing to deliver products and services using Earth observation data and other data sources. The target audiences are scientific algorithms developers, data analysts and service providers who want to implement process/business workflows, taking advantage of cloud computing.

We are looking for an Earth Observation Software Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and optimizing systems for collecting and analysing data from Earth observation satellites.

The position is in the Systems Department, EOS Team (comprises of 2 persons).

The candidate will mainly report to the EOS Team Lead.

  • Location : Sint-Stevens-Woluwe (Brussels Area)
  • Start date : As of June 2024

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the enhancement and maintenance of our existing Earth observation systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate satellite data into actionable insights
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in the Earth observation field
  • Participate in the business development activities for the team.

Design and develop:

  • Distributed data processing platforms and services
  • Algorithms for processing Earth observation data.

Skills and Experience

A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or relevant

A proven experience with or knowledge of:

  • Software development lifecycle, including the production of projects or products documentation
  • Software programming, especially of Web applications and services (preferably with Python/Django, VueJS or equivalent)
  • Linux systems and networks as user and administrator
  • Cloud-related technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Helm)

Considered as Assets

  • Understanding of remote sensing principles and methodologies (e.g. optical, radar, thermal)
  • Image processing techniques for extracting meaningful information from raw satellite data
  • Experience with AI-related technologies.

Knowledge of:

  • EU and ESA data exploitation platforms
  • GIS tools for mapping, spatial analysis, and integration of satellite data with other geospatial information
