Geoawesomeness is delighted to announce Sives Govender, Research Group Leader at CSIR joins us as an expert on the panel for the 2023 Top 100 Geospatial Companies.
Sives Govender is a Geographer and holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree with specialization in GIS, from the University of Durban-Westville (now UKZN) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Development from the University of Stellenbosch.
He is a Research Group Leader in Spatial Information Systems research group at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and a non-executive director of Environmental Information System-Africa (EIS-Africa), a pan African nonprofit organization, promoting the utilization of Geospatial Science and Technology to support sustainable development in Africa. As part of his role at EIS-Africa, organizes and manages the biennial AfricaGIS conference, the largest continental gathering of geospatial experts which has been convened since 1993.
Sives is also an advisory Board member of Place and Board member of Radiant Earth Foundation, evaluation panel member for Geoawesomeness Top 100 Geospatial Companies, CSIR lead representative for the National Earth Observation System of Systems (NEOSS) and a member of the Group on Earth Observation (GEO).
For over two decades he has been involved in numerous global to national geospatial science, technology and Spatial Data Infrastructure related activities and projects. He works closely with the African Union Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa to develop African capabilities and capacity to support sustainable development using geospatial data and technologies. He is the contract manager for the National Ocean and Coastal Information Management System (OCIMS).

Jonathan Neufeld has worked with hundreds of companies to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative technology. He is passionate about the intersection of technology, business, and interesting problems, and is unwaveringly optimistic about where technology will take us into the future.
Lately Jonathan is focused on building GNO-SYS Technology, a geomatics engineering consulting firm, and Io Aerospace which is focused on specialized airborne remote sensing operations. He continues to spend some time with TECTERRA, a non-profit focused on community-level initiatives which grow geospatial thinking, develop skills, and lead to the creation of innovative technology.
After two decades in the geospatial innovation industry and over a decade helping companies directly, Jonathan knows what it takes to get a new company off the ground, and how location-based technology is shaping the world around us. He is a TEDx speaker, has hosted international conferences, and has deep insight into the future of geospatial tech.
Jonathan is a professional Geomatics Engineer and has earned an MBA from the University of Calgary.
